FORNAV moves to the layout type “Custom”

With the Customizable Report Pack version 8.0, FORNAV moves from using the layout type “Word” to using the layout type “Custom”. This supports the transition from the previous layout to the new Custom layout subsystem in Business Central.

When customers using Business Central 25 or higher upgrade to the Customizable Report Pack version 8.0:

  • All FORNAV layouts will be moved to use layout type “Custom”, with the “Mime Type” “FORNAV”.
  • All reports in the Customizable Report Pack will have built-in layouts with the name “FORNAV”, “Custom”, with the “Mime Type” “FORNAV”.
  • All custom FORNAV reports using a built-in layout with the layout type “Word” will continue to work.
  • All layout functionality in the Customizable Report Pack will use the new layout type.
  • Old and new FORNAV backups will continue to work on all versions of the Customizable Report Pack
  • When creating new or upgrading existing custom reports, the layout built-in will automatically be “Custom”, with the “Mime Type” “FORNAV”.

This means that all FORNAV reports with or without custom layouts will continue to work in the same way as today, and the customer will not experience any differences.

When Business Central 27 is released in the fall of 2025, it will no longer be possible to use FORNAV reports with the layout type “Word”. This means that FORNAV will follow up with a new version of the Customizable Report Pack before the release:

  • For existing custom FORNAV reports using a built-in layout with the layout type “Word”, we will create a copy of the built-in layout, insert and activate it as a new custom layout with the name “FORNAV LEGACY – Please upgrade your report and delete this layout”, layout type “Custom”, with the “Mime Type” “FORNAV”.
  • For new custom FORNAV reports using a built-in layout with the layout type “Word” (this can happen when using an older version of the Designer) the execution will fail.
